Smith: NDAA to Prioritize COVID-19 Testing and Response

Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Adam Smith said Tuesday that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) will incorporate elements that boost production of coronavirus testing materials, CQ reports.
“It’s going to require a massive amount of testing before we can safely allow people to go back to work,” said Smith. He pointed to the Department of Defense’s logistic capability and production scalability to ramp up availability of coronavirus tests, which currently are in low in supply.
Due to social distancing in Washington and around the country, Smith says the NDAA will not be enacted until after Oct. 1. “Until a vaccine is developed, this is going to be a part of our lives,” he said.
