A recent Pentagon press release announced a contract awarding funds for 60 Battelle Memorial Institute Critical Care Decontamination Systems (CCDS). The units will allow 80,000 N95 masks to be decontaminated per day and enables the PPE to be reused up to 20 times.

“I remain extremely proud of the selfless efforts of Department of Defense personnel who continue to do everything they can to help provide medical masks, test kits, medicine and meals to support America’s military, medical, emergency services and law enforcement professionals who are on the front lines and need them most,” said Under Secretary of Defense Ellen Lord.

The systems will be available by early May and be distributed by FEMA and HHS. Officials say the 60 units will have the capacity to sterilize 34 million masks per month.
