Esper: Face Coverings Required on DoD Installations, Property

Following the recent CDC recommendation to stem the spread of COVID-19, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper issued new guidance that any individuals on DoD property, installations, and facilities must wear a cloth face covering.
In addition to service members, the guidance instructs face coverings are worn by civilan employees, family members and defense contractors. Masks are to be worn in public areas and work centers, and are not required within service members’ homes.
“As an interim measure, all individuals are encouraged to fashion face coverings from household items or common materials, such as clean T-shirts or other clean cloths that can cover the nose and mouth area,” Esper said in the memo.
