Furloughs and layoffs increasing across the nation due to the coronavirus pandemic is making food security a pressing issue. But military families in San Diego are getting a helping hand from Armed Services YMCA San Diego, which distributed approximately 350 boxes of food to families in need recently.

The organization has provided meals to 1,600 families this past month, an increase of over 280 percent says Armed Services YMCA San Diego. San Diego Food Bank and the Smart Food Foundation provided the food, with support of Lowes and a team of local service members, reported CBS8.

Food is distributed bi-monthly; those who wish to participate can pre-register on Armed Services YMCA San Diego Facebook page, or call the Food Bank at 1-866-350-FOOD.
